Nia Caldwell, a scholar at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science, is striving to become a journalist. She wants to speak about influential issues such as sexual harassment and immigration. Nia is a senior and hoping to attend the University of New Haven, which offers a wonderful communications program. She is confident that she will become a journalist.
“I got a news reporter award in first grade,” she said.
Nia is not only into journalism but continues to engage and explore in other areas, such as sports and the arts. There was even a brief phase where she wanted to become a surgeon. She gave up that dream and is now very interested in becoming a journalist. She has not found an exact niche yet.
One of her biggest inspirations is her single mother. They have a close relationship forged by taking care of each other. Nia is from Columbia, S.C. and moved to Philadelphia when she was in fifth grade. Her mother is from Philadelphia and her father is from South Carolina.
She is a hardworking 18-year-old employed as a hostess at Manayunk Brewing Company. As a writer, Nia is open-minded and talented.
