Cindy Henry leads workshop on generating story ideas

Cindy Henry, the deputy New Jersey editor of the Inquirer, talked to students about generating story ideas on the first day of the 2017 Acel Moore High School Journalism Workshop.

Henry emphasized the free-form nature of story generation brainstorming sessions, asking students what words or topics they associate with Valentine’s Day.

Among the responses: Candy, flowers, and love.

From that list of ideas, Henry began exploring stories.

  • What is the history of the holiday?
  • How do flowers go from nursery to table?
  • How is candy made?
  • How much candy is sold?
  • What are the most popular date restaurants?

Henry also helped lead a workshop on interviewing skills.
